Some
situations require the use
of a stand-alone battery charger. Maybe you need one to keep
your RV
batteries charged when connected to utility power, or powering up from
a portable
generator. Perhaps you are planning a small DC-only
electrical system that
doesn't have an inverter/charger. Any time you need to charge
batteries from an AC source, it pays to get a quality charger that
treats your batteries well and make good use of the AC power. One
commonly overlooked use is for quick and efficient charging of marine
batteries.
Iota
battery chargers
are quality units that can also be used as a power supply for
DC loads. This might be the case in an RV, and an Iota can
potentially be used to replace a RV "converter" that powers DC lights

Xantrex
Truecharge 2 is a 12 volt, 40 amp,
3-stage charger that has equalizing capability. Xantrex
inverter technology means that this charger will perform well even with very small portable
generators (1200 watt minimum). It
has settings for different battery types, and has automatic temperature
compensation when used with the optional sensor. Designed for
use
with a wide range of input voltage and frequency, and will charge up to
3 separate battery banks at the same time. Two chargers can
be
connected in series for 24 volt charging.
